Welsh Blood Service becomes an official sponsor for the JD Cymru Leagues

The JD Cymru Leagues is excited to announce that the Welsh Blood Service has become the official sponsor of the Tier 2 League Cup for the 2022/23 season.

The partnership, which will run for the inaugural campaign of the competition, will see the competition now be known as the Welsh Blood Service League Cup.

Blood, Sweat and Cheers

The Welsh Blood Service partnered with the JD Cymru Leagues and Genero Adran Leagues in 2020 to encourage domestic football fans to donate blood in a brand-new ‘Blood, Sweat and Cheers!’ campaign.

The Blood Sweat and Cheers campaign has already potentially saved the lives of over 2,000 adults since launching and clubs across the leagues will continue supporting the organisation throughout the new campaign.

The Welsh Blood Service League Cup will be regionalised in the early stages with the draw split into northern and southern sections until the two regional winners are confirmed.

The winners of the northern section will then take on the winners of the southern section as they battle it out to make history and become the first Welsh Blood Service League Cup champions.

Peter Richardson, Head of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance at the Welsh Blood Service said: “As a Service, we thrive when communities come together, and we’ve already seen the benefits of how local football, at the heart of communities, helps to save lives across Wales.

“We’re thrilled to continue working alongside the FAW and to be a part of the first Tier 2 League Cup, promoting the importance of giving blood, platelets or bone marrow for people in need.”

We are excited that our community partners the Welsh Blood Service will become the sponsor of the Tier 2 League Cup for the inaugural season.

Nick Davies, Interim Senior Competitions Manager at the FAW

“We are incredibly proud of the JD Cymru Leagues’ community partnership with the Welsh Blood Service and how it has developed since launching just under two years ago.

“The partnership is making a real difference across the country and it’s pleasing to see how the clubs have helped to save lives through the Blood Sweat and Cheers campaign.

“The new competition will see clubs contest in an exciting competition format in the northern and southern sections, before an overall winner is crowned at the end of the campaign.”
